Watched at Plaza Jamdu Dua, Bogor – 01:30 PM

I watched Ballerina on a day that already felt pretty emotional. I had just visited a friend whose parent passed away, and it brought back a lot of thoughts of losing my own mom. I didn’t want to stay in that heavy mood, so after eating mie Gacoan with some friends, I asked to be dropped off at the cinema. I’d been waiting for this movie for so long, I love stylish action films like John Wick. Unfortunately, I forgot to bring my glasses with me, and with my -3 vision, everything in the distance was just a blur. But I didn’t care, I still bought a ticket and sat in the second row from the front. My neck hurt a bit from looking up, but I could stretch my legs and sort of lie back, so it wasn’t too bad. Totally worth it. Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro was incredible. Her character’s journey from witnessing her father’s murder (which turned out to be ordered by her own grandfather) to becoming a trained assassin was intense and emotional. She ends up being taken in and trained by the Ruska Roma, the same underground assassin organization that trained John Wick himself. The mix of ballet and combat choreography was clean and creative, and Ana nailed every part of it. One thing that made me extra excited was seeing Norman Reedus, this was actually the first time I saw him on the big screen! As a huge The Walking Dead fan (yes, the series by Robert Kirkman, and yes, I’m a massive Daryl Dixon fan), it felt so cool to see him in a totally different role.

What made me a little disappointed was finding out that the film didn’t do very well at the box office. I kind of expected it honestly, when the trailer first came out, it didn’t get many views, and I already had a feeling it wouldn’t be super popular. After watching it, I looked it up and saw that the movie had a budget of around $90 million, but only made about $132 million worldwide. Not a disaster, but definitely not great either I feel bad for the studio because I know they put a lot into this. For me, personally, it’s an easy 9 out of 10.
